eduroam (education roaming) gives students, teachers, researchers and staff quick, secure and easy access to fixed and wireless networks at their home institutions and at other institutions that offer the service, whether in Kenya or elsewhere.

Why do I need eduroam?

You are looking for a secure, seamless, automatic and world-wide roaming internet access service that uses a single WiFi profile and set of credentials.

You are tired of entering usernames and passwords through insecure web browser forms.

How secure is eduroam?

eduroam is based on the most secure encryption and authentication standards in existence today. Its security by far exceeds typical public and private available hotspots.

Your login credentials are never exposed at the visiting institution. Your device will establish a secure encrypted tunnel to an authentication server at your home institution.

What do I need to connect to eduroam?

To connect to eduroam, your home institution must be providing the eduroam service. Check if your home institution is listed in eduroam Participating Institutions and request an account — typically an email address and a password.

If your home institution is not currently participating in eduroam, please encourage them to visit joining eduroam or contact KENET at support@kenet.or.ke.

Connecting to eduroam

Please do not be tempted to guess credentials while connecting to the eduroam SSID — it will not work.

If you are experiencing an issue connecting with eduroam, please contact your home institution IT support team.

Please be aware that when using the general Internet at an eduroam hotspot, the local site security measures at that hotspot will apply to you as well. The firewall settings at the visited institution may be different from those at your home institution.
